Fontana Village is rich with history. The village is located on land that was once the farm of Jesse Gunter. Take a walk through his original log cabin, built in the 1870's, as you imagine what life was like for mountain folks long ago.
In 1942 TVA came into Welch Cove to build Fontana Dam. This transformed the farm into a bustling town of 6,000. The old elementary school has been rennovated and contains an events hall, card room, and public library. The Visitor's Center at the top of Fontana Dam has wonderful displays about the construction of the largest dam east of the Rockies.
