eep in the northern reaches of the Nantahala Forest on Fontana Lake sits a village that's about as far removed from the hustle of everyday life as one can imagine. No, you won't find any traffic congestion or neon lights. What you will find is a complete vacation destination and recreation facility set amid some of the most scenic forests in America!

Fontana Village is the largest resort in the Smoky Mountains. It sits in the middle of Western North Carolina's most outstanding features: The Cherohala Skyway, whitewater rafting in the Nantahala Gorge, Fontana Dam (the highest in eastern America), The Great Smoky Mountains Railway, Highways 28 & 129 known to car and cycling enthusiasts as the Hellbender 28 and the Dragon, Harrah's Cherokee Casino in Cherokee, NC, Fontana Lake, The Appalachian Trail, Tsali recreation area for and The Blue Ridge Parkway.

All of these attractions are located in the Fontana area, and the roads to all are some of the most scenic in the eastern United States. The natural surroundings of Fontana Village is almost entirely National Forest Service land.

See TVA Fontana Dam It is the home of Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Slickrock Creek Wilderness Area, the Nantahala National Forest, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Appalachian Trail winds through Graham county through Fontana Village on its trek from Georgia to Maine. Fontana Lake has some 280 miles of shoreline to explore over it’s 29 mile length and 11,000 acres of surface water ending at the 465 ft. tall Fontana Dam- the largest dam in the east.
